Changing of the Guard

Mike Vernon has been a Rotarian since joining the Oviedo Club in 2002 and is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Lake Mary. He has served in a variety of club positions including secretary, a member of boards of directors, chairman of a number of committees, and club president. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and has received club awards including Outstanding New Member of the Year, Rotarian of the Year, and the Service Above Self Award. He was selected as AG of the Year for 2015 – 2016. He begins his term as District Governor in June 2020.
He graduated from Florida Southern College and has a Master of Science degree from Clemson University and a Master of Military Arts and Science degree from Fort Leavenworth, KS.


He served in the US Army for 26 years with the opportunity to serve overseas in Viet Nam, Germany, and the Netherlands. He has served on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon and as the senior Army representative and professor at the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College.

He has worked in the defense industry and owns a consulting firm, Management Vectors, Inc. As a consultant, he has had the opportunity to work with a number of Ministries of Defense in countries that were once part of the Soviet Union including Romania, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Poland.

Mike is also involved in community activities including serving in his church in various capacities as a lay leader, serving on the vestries of multiple parishes, and as senior warden a number of times. He is involved in serving the homeless and those in need through Grace and Grits, a program providing food and clothing.

Mike’s diverse background prepared him well to perform as the District Governor for Rotary District 6980.  Mike is a strong, results-oriented and trusted, go-to manager who very successfully grew his business and developed his team. He is a visionary strategic thinker who delivers.
